Testing: #Rustodon
Specifically: #ActivityPub #RustLang DB to integrate with Mastodon
Why: To have a running instance before the end of April. Strategy. I've been learning some rust, but have become a bit rusty. (bwahaha see what I did there?!) All the memory safety and performance that comes with the #Rust programming language. And maybe knowing stacks of people who could help in moments of dispair!

#ActivityPub, the federation standard that powers Mastodon, is finally a W3C Recommendation! I got my fingers in Mastodon’s AP implementation for a tiny bit early on, so I got to see the incredible amount of work @cwebber @Gargron and many others did to make this happen. Here’s to many more implementations going forward!

Ghent ActivityPub Social
We’re having an informal little social gathering to mark the kickoff of our Indienet project with folks from the City of Ghent / Digipolis / Gentinfo this evening at 6PM at Bar Wilson @ NEST. If you’re in the area, free, and interested in the fediverse, ActivityPub, etc., do feel free to drop by and say hello :)

Thanks to @Chocobozzz for developing such a great piece of software. It's really cool to see where this is going!

@taiganaut It is distinct because it is a completely separate project, an #OStatus and #ActivityPub implementation written from scratch. -

@randomascii you don't need an account on an instance to follow someone on it, as long as it federates using #OStatus or #ActivityPub -

@kris Make that #ActivityPub. #ActivityPump was the original name for #Pump.io, back when EvanP was first trying to develop a lower-resource-use federated social server. (There was never an explanation for the name change, either. I always thought AP was a better name.)
