   Specifically: #ActivityPub #RustLang DB to integrate with Mastodon

   Why: To have a running instance before the end of April. Strategy. I've been learning some rust, but have become a bit rusty. (bwahaha see what I did there?!) All the memory safety and performance that comes with the #Rust programming language. And maybe knowing stacks of people who could help in moments of dispair!

     @banjofox well you know of course already with #Aardwolf, one of the best ways to learn programming is to learn alongside the other developers!

     Not only is there more to be done, and learn as you go, you also get to share some project experience with people that arrive after you. Whether better documentation or design, through to improving code itself.

     #OpenSource projects are not just for ninja coders. Projects like these are a huge opportunity for people at any level and skillset.

     @banjofox As head of Open Source at Scrapinghub, I recently wrote the policy for our 5h/week contribution allowance. I made certain to make it clear that contributions to Open Source (ahem, and Free Software) are not only code! I included brief examples of non-code, and will be expanding in a (internal) blog post. Really want to see our non-coders getting into FLOSS and feeling connected to democratic code!

     @david_ross Here's hoping it pays off. :) Part of it may be helping people to first identify the FLOSS they unknowingly use, and making them realise that when something is bad or broken or incomplete, they can directly act to make it better. :)

     @cathal yeh that's a massively empowering realisation when this happens. I can wholly appreciate why you do what you're doing. Stuff like that's addictive.
