@noorul I wouldn't compare the two as lightly. I have a post about this coming up in a few weeks but #ActivityPub requires a more dynamic server than that of Webmention dictates. The beauty of #Webmention is that it can be done completely out of band!

@noorul From what I'm seeing about #ActivityPub, you'll need some kind of dynamic server processing to handle incoming requests (like for following, boxing your inbox, etc).

I don't know if this is something built into #ActivityPub or provable by the #ActivityPub spec. I _think_ it can be done in the #IndieWeb since it's parsing largely HTML; if you use <picture> tags with <source media=> set then you can just pick out the matching media for your device and go from there

As GnuSocial is being silently discontinued, I plan to set up an own Pleroma instance later this year to enjoy the #ActivityPub fun in full -

Making !GNUsocial work with #ActivityPub is the right thing to do, but I'm not sure that removing OStatus is. Does #Mastodon allow transport protocols to be added as plugins? -

I keep forgetting that I don't need to links from #ActivityPub projects; I can just search them up and wham it'll be something I can repost, like and comment on!

@wakest I use #Nextcloud. The #ActivityPub support for it is still in alpha last time I checked; I can't find an app to install to my instance and I'm on latest stable (14.0.3)

@bob actualy hold on, just was noted that I wasn't clear here.
Two things: Tusky (AFAIK) is Mastodon-specific (and has been from jump). I'm talking something that can speak and authenticate with an #ActivityPub server and provide a very polished experience regardless of the server in question. Something like that would let people instance-hop and discover new content very freely

Also yo. #ActivityStreams (or #ActivityPub) defines a LOT of stuff. Like you can use it barter lol

Hmm. How would #ActivityPub allow for defining / exposure of things like Emoji information from an instance?
Better yet, if I had a client that spoke nothing but vanilla #ActivityPub; could it "discover" formatting extensions for #ActivityPub? The spec's telling the server to treat it how it wants https://www.w3.org/TR/activitystreams-vocabulary/#microsyntaxes

I wonder if someone could work on a C2S (Client to Server) project to see how it could work https://www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/#client-to-server-interactions
I think the breaking part is largely the inability to define things around uploading data (#ActivityPub doesn't define one but there's mention here on some approaches https://www.w3.org/wiki/SocialCG/ActivityPub/MediaUpload)

#Nextcloud introduces social features, joins the fediverse https://nextcloud.com/blog/nextcloud-introduces-social-features-joins-the-fediverse/ #activitypub
Nextcloud's Frank Karlitschek was an early supporter of the ActivityPub standard and I remember well sitting across from him over coffee talking about how to get our projects to talk to each other. Excited to see Nextcloud friends join the fediverse!

#Friendica is an open source federated social network with a Facebook-style interface, including photo galleries, events and more.
It federates with Mastodon and Diaspora, so you can connect with people on both services.
You can try it out here:
https://squeet.me
https://libranet.de...and at these sites: https://the-federation.info/friendica
The latest version has #ActivityPub support, so Friendica will federate with an even wider range of services soon.

#TheFediverse is the name for a group of federated sites that use the #ActivityPub technical standard to talk to each other (including #Mastodon, #Pleroma, #PeerTube, #FunkWhale, #WriteFreely and many others).
#TheFederation means sites that use the Diaspora standard to talk to each other (most notably #Diaspora itself).
Some sites belong to both, and the definitions have shifted over time as new standards have been adopted. As the phrase goes, your mileage may vary.

#ActivityPubForWordPress are plugins for WordPress sites that add support for the ActivityPub standard.
This means people can follow the WordPress site from ActivityPub-powered services such as Mastodon etc.
There are a couple of such plugins right now:

#ActivityPub is a technical standard for connecting independent sites together to form a single giant network.
Mastodon users can follow people from other Mastodon sites because they all talk to each other through ActivityPub.
But there's more... AP also lets different kinds of sites talk to each other, so people on Mastodon can follow people on PeerTube, Pleroma etc.

All of these federate through ActivityPub:

https://plume-org.github.io/Plume/ - Plume: Still alpha testing but very functional, sign up at https://fediverse.blog/, https://baptiste.gelez.xyz etc.
