Have been re-reading Becky Chambers books, which were released in #Polish recently, and I bought the translations.
Very good fluffy science fiction (definetly not hard-SF).
I found them via #sffbookclub 🙂 which I recommend.

- Slavic names were nice touch, and having a story taking place in my neighbourhood (even if Lithuania never had a proper Tsar I think);
- I also like magic-medieval times without the church meddling with everything;
- Multiple POW allowed for a story where all characters have believable reasons to do what they are doing (even "evil" ones); Japanese culture has more of such stories (Princess Mononoke was a discovery for me long time ago!, after than Nausicaa [comic]);
- Multiple POW also allowed for a story that basically says: "no matter who you are in feudal society, you are screwed". Especially if you are a woman, or peasant, or peasant-woman;
- I liked the multiple points of view;
- I liked how debt was embedded into narrative;
- I liked magic! Especially the inexplicable one in the Witches Hut;
- I really liked how characters behaved in witches hut --- that is were thankful that they found abandoned shelter, and decided to fix it as much as possible to thank (possibly dead) owner;

@naga sorry I meant wereable. And yes she borrowed it.
The point is that the difference between computer connected to brain via cables and via existing senses is not substantial. Both can be disabled.
There was a Cory Doctorow book/story, where was a motif of person that had always on "Google Glass like" thingy and computer, and was utterly lost when it was stolen.
- I totally got "decaying empire" vibes from T.
- I'm also wondering why they reacted on the external threat, usually rigid hierarchical states have very big capacity to ignore external threats until way to late.
- I'm wondering what is the substantial difference between always on ocular implant and cranial implant. You can be totally reliant on both I'd guess.
- I wonder what thermodynamics of planet-wide city looks like. IMO outlook is grim.
- I respect hints about not trusting The Algorithm; Even if algorithm is good, it will always yield to whoever is running it.
- I didn't buy the whole "imago machine as core of Lsel culture". Great gadget, but not more important than eg. The Internet (which is not defining characteristics of modern Earth.

Didn't you get the vibe that only way to survive was to play along Oankali rules? Using colonization metaphor this also means that only way to survive was to play along rules of new rulers? (which historically wasn't always true).
Thanks for this interpretation of the book! Since during colonization era my country was not-existent we, this is now to me.
Am I the only one who read all of them in a single weekend, along with all Bulter I bought from Amazon for cheap transport?
I was a weird kid in college.
Also I'm very curious of your opinion (the both of you).
I'm nominating "Walkaway" by Cory Doctorow.
@naga
Parable of the Sower? Would require heavy CW though. And maybe enable people to veto due to CW?
Almost prophetic, I hope she got dates wrong, though.

And there are hints that Strength's priest in the North was also a trans/queer(?) person.
And the whole priest killing was what got Strength into this mess (and also prompted him to react impulsively --- out of character).
Now I'm wondering how I could miss these hints?

I'm re-reading the book (I re-read a lot of book and do it often --- which probably offsets not paying too much attention to details).
And then it dawned on me:
This book i as love-letter from Strength and Patience to Eolo. Well maybe not love-love, but they are totally into him.
First chapter is a a little bit melancholic re-tracing of Eolo's first step through town. And after that there is a mention that "Northern gods" like trans (queer?) people.
Well, I'm sceptical about having "human gender" of "inhuman beings".
That is: all beings should identify themselves as whatever fits them, however human gender is cultural phenomenon that IMO is localized to human culture.
Also (we'd need more info on this) does gods have culture, there seems to be awfully small amount of interaction between them (however Silence was more reclusive than most other gods)
So "The Strength and Patience of the Hill" is almost totally non-violent. (Well as far as gods go in the book).
They did execute three gods, but mostly when these were harming/have harmed/planned to harm, people he cared about.
Other than that they were focused on healing, well being of people.
Kinda sorta like enlightened person, or stoic master not caring too much about world, but helping others whenever possible.
Isn't magic very similar to Eragon (and rooted deeply in the Earthsea)?
There are nice twists containing promises (also in Eragon); However what took 1k pages in Eragon here was much more condensed (in a good way!);
The difference is that "Life Energy" from Eragon could be taken by force, while here it needs to be given willingly (which kills idea of self-sustaining death spells that were natural extension of Eragon magic)
Someone is doing fan made short movie based on Nausicaa from the valley of the wind characters.
I highly recommend the original also, movie and, even more, the comic were one of formative experiences of my young-adolthood.

Possibly #SFFBookClub will enjoy it.
Narrator is very peculiar.
