Is there any way to search the descriptions of Fediverse (or even just Mastodon) instances by keyword?

For example, https://instances.social has a list of Mastodon instances including descriptions, but there doesn't seem to be any way to search these descriptions.

It would be so cool if someone could come up with a Fediverse instance keyword search tool. Is this possible?

Why doesn't mastodon support gifs?

Pleroma does. Pixelfed does. Don't go extinct! #fediverse

You can very easily browse hashtags on the Fediverse by going to a large Mastodon instance and using the address (instance)/tags/(hashtag).

For example:

https://mastodon.social/tags/recipe

This page includes public posts from the Fediverse using that hashtag. You don't need to be logged in to view the page.

Click on a post date to see it enlarged with replies.

Different instances show different combinations of posts, depending on who people follow on that instance.

So basically at the moment #ssb is like the #fediverse. You download an app that gets its info from a server, run by whoever. Only difference is that on fedi the server stores the data, not having duplicates for it's users thus saving storage, but it needs a connection to the server when I want to use it. On SSB it downloads all the data from the server when a connection is available and pushes posts/likes, but needs lots of storage on each device.
Correct?

I had made a list of things I wanted to see in the #IndieWeb / #fediverse on here but I 100% lost it.

Also, yes, I *have* checked things about the #CopyrightDirective and how it might or might not affect the #Fediverse.

Short version:
- everyone and their dog will be affected by Article 11;
- small, donation-supported instances might or might not be affected by Article 13, depending on the particular country of hosting and a court's humour;
- Masto.host will almost certainly be affected even though they just *host* instances.

I will reply in the relevant threads once I get to it.
