Please block "freefedifollowers.ga", they are spamming massive numbers of fake followers (I've just had 2000 fake followers for example).

I'm by no means a "free speech extremist", but I don't see any particular problem in federating with gab.com. It's sad to see many instances preventively blocking gab.com, which is also the largest node on the #fediverse, just because there are some assholes. But whatever, I see there are some snowflakes which easily get hurt by random words coming form online strangers. I understand.

@DashEquals This is just my lukewarm take, but I find it's helpful to take regular vacations from most social media from time to time.

I can also recommend liberal use of the mute button for people get heavy-handed with their own opinion.

Another useful tactic I find, is to set up an alt account on a less politically orientated instance.

Unlike most other social media, the #Fediverse doesn't hold your hand or wrap you in cotton wool, so we need to be responsible for our own mental well being.

I'm really saddened to see how many of my friends have left the #Fediverse in recent months, mostly due to various dramas.

Honestly, if I wasn't on a pretty terrific instance I'd have joined them too.

My political beliefs do not define me.

My actions do.

The sooner we can put politics aside, and work to build a real alternative to corporate silos aka social media, the better.

Last week, Mastodon adopted a beginner-friendly default interface 👍

So, maybe this would be a good time to spread the word about Mastodon to a wider audience?

If you're on Facebook/Twitter, you could do a little post about Masto with a link to https://joinmastodon.org ? And a link to a good instance running 2.9 or above?

(Also, I think some people were doing Mastodon posters?)

If people hear about Mastodon from many different sources, they are more likely to try it.

Woo! As you may have seen from that previous boost, Mastodon 2.9 is now out, featuring a new single column interface:

This is, IMHO, a huge step forward for getting non-technical people onto Mastodon 👍

Instead of the Tweetdeck-style interface, there's now a default single-column timeline which is much less scary.

(The multicolumn original is still an option in Settings, and those who currently use multicolumn will continue to see it by default.)
