Some people including @qwazix asked about a #500px alternative. There seems to be one under development called #PeerPX which includes #ActivityPub federation:

@shibayashi #Plume is the farthest along and getting close to being usable. #Hubzilla has some blogging features but they seem a bit secondary. #WriteAs (http://write.as) announced they implemented it but haven't released it yet. @pfefferle is currently working on a #WordPress plugin for it. And the founder of #Ghost @johnonolan seems to be supportive of the addition of #ActivityPub if there were someone interested in working on it. And #Known (http://withknown.com) is adding support!

ActivityPub is still very young, only a couple months old.
Its great to see so much enthusiasm and new projects.
The network effect applies just as it does to traditional silo'd social media platforms.
It's just a matter of time for the fediverse to grow and become mainstream enough to sustain that model while providing a superior experience. #activitypub
