If I move pixelfed from github, it will be to a federated git host. I spent a few hours working on this old project 😉 #activitypub #fediverse

Some #Friendica screenshots to give an idea of what it's like to use.

It features a familiar #Facebook-style timeline in the middle, an FB-style events system, and there's also groups (sort of).

If people want to switch from Facebook, this could be a really nice alternative for them once #ActivityPub is added.

It also works as a feed reader, you can "friend" RSS addresses and they then appear in your timeline as if they were users.

#Friendica, the open federated alternative to #Facebook, is due to get #ActivityPub support towards the end of the year, in its 2018.11 update.

You can already follow Friendica users through Mastodon using an older standard. For example, the official blog is here:

@aemeera It's basically a federated alternative to Feedly that works with #ActivityPub today, and will eventually support classic RSS/Atom, too.

The idea is to have a dedicated reading app for long-form articles published via all the federated blogging platforms out there, like ours, #Plume, Microblog.pub, etc.

Apparently, I missed the #ForkOff kerfluffle during my instances #GDPR dark time.

I'm glad there's a forking effort for #Mastodon. It's an example of the power of #FOSS; if you don't like the how the code works, or how a project works, you can #ForkIt.

And, the fact it's an open protocol makes it even more powerful. There are myriad implementations of #activitypub. #Pleroma is yet another implementation.

I'm kidding. I am glad that it's being worked on because I do feel that this is a one of the more frustrating things about #ActivityPub integration. It's like having multiple accounts that SHOULD work together, and kind of do, but kind of don't. Even tying accounts together in some way would be preferable. If I post on my #PixelFed account, it automatically posts that content to my Mastodon account? That would work, but the inverse?

@idiom Glad to hear it! There's a lot of interesting services that are using #ActivityPub right now, and I'm a fan of them. I hope my post doesn't discourage you from trying them out.

My one frustration with #ActivityPub federated stuff right now is that they integrate, but only partially. I have this account, but I can't use this account to access #PixelFed. I have to create an account on pixelfed.social, and then I can follow myself from my Mastodon account? People who follow me here on Fosstodon don't follow the PixelFed account. I COULD boost my PixelFed account from Mastodon, but things just get awkward. Then we add #PeerTube into the mix, or other federated stuff.
