The main point is that there is a need for interoperability, and for breaking the giants vertically (e.g. break them up like it happened for electricity and phone companies). And people should *own* their data.

The article offers a lot of context, and is meant for an audience that has not given much thought to these issue. So shares inside and outside the #fediverse are very much welcome.
