Sheogorath 🦊 (sheogorath)'s status on Wednesday, 05-Jun-2019 12:55:48 CEST Sheogorath 🦊 Use rust they said… It's awesome they said…
I never failed so hard on merging two strings together in any other language…, even C is trivial here by using the strcpy. Not without danger, but trivial.
Maybe someone has mercy and can explain my what I'm doing wrong? 😥

Jacky Alciné (jalcine)'s status on Wednesday, 05-Jun-2019 05:16:43 CEST Jacky Alciné finally figured out cross channel communication with the GUI and background threads for #Qt and in #Rust. Going to push the envelope here

#rust #rustaceans if y'all got some experience with multi threading with the language lemme know cuz a brother is stumped and needs to do client work lol

Jacky Alciné (jalcine)'s status on Saturday, 01-Jun-2019 00:31:37 CEST Jacky Alciné Okay, so I'm getting stuck on messaging passing between threads in #rust for #activitydesk. I think I might make something to eat, read a bit and then come back to this. I feel like this _should_ be more simple but I also am 'learning' the language by building something with it.

Jacky Alciné (jalcine)'s status on Thursday, 30-May-2019 11:21:53 CEST Jacky Alciné I do want a potential #activitypub #c2s library and I think I might have to work on this for #rust so I can get it working in #activitydesk. But this is what it takes - building blocks https://indieweb.org/building-blocks to allow people to build other things.

Jacky Alciné (jalcine)'s status on Thursday, 30-May-2019 11:20:55 CEST Jacky Alciné I'm really grateful for the hard work that the library authors of #elefren in #rust have done. Because of this, there's automatic support for streaming in #activitydesk with very little effort. I should have a TL for myself built by the end of the week.

Jacky Alciné (jalcine)'s status on Thursday, 30-May-2019 04:07:18 CEST Jacky Alciné Okay, I think I'm going to cheat a bit and not using a "message bus" to inform the UI when there's a new post. Instead, I'm tempted to use a functor in #Rust and pass a serialized form of the post to present. That way, I can do polling of the network in a separate thread (one for each network? - nah) and allow the UI to update accordingly.

Jacky Alciné (jalcine)'s status on Tuesday, 28-May-2019 19:47:40 CEST Jacky Alciné still early but all in #rust and #qt! https://v2.jacky.wtf/post/4ddce79d-97ce-4a8e-840c-41ccb56640d5

Jacky Alciné (jalcine)'s status on Wednesday, 22-May-2019 02:59:18 CEST Jacky Alciné woah so live reloading apps in #Rust is a thing (anything can do it) https://docs.rs/live-reload/0.2.0/live_reload/
just gotta have no global state

Jacky Alciné (jalcine)'s status on Tuesday, 21-May-2019 23:25:48 CEST Jacky Alciné @cathal I mean either GTK + #Rust or qmetaobject-rs works!
I'm working on this from the #Qt front but there's apps for #GNOME https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/podcasts and https://gitlab.gnome.org/BrainBlasted/Social that are Gtk and Rust!

Jacky Alciné (jalcine)'s status on Tuesday, 21-May-2019 21:23:39 CEST Jacky Alciné can someone point me to a completely #rust #gtk project? I'm curious about the state of Rust in GTK and wondering if I can make a wrapper for https://github.com/woboq/qmetaobject-rs that helps

Jacky Alciné (jalcine)'s status on Tuesday, 21-May-2019 11:19:11 CEST Jacky Alciné fuck I'm still up.
I've been diving into this stuff for #rust - I missed working with abstractions like the ones Rust provided. Like the way I have this going, I should be able to add plugins for new kinds of sign-in flows for social networks very easily

R (rory)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Mar-2019 13:45:18 CET R @karlos I've done a lot of #rust, but never #wasm... I could try to help you debug the rust code, but I'd need to see more code...
